The failure of the right wing wooden spar due while the airplane was in cruise flight, due to the mechanic's inadequate annual inspection and his failure to comply with an airworthiness directive.

THE PLT REPORTED THAT THE ACFT STARTED TO DRIFT INTO THE SOFTPLOWED FIELD ON THE RIGHT OF THE RWY AND FULL LEFT RUDDER AND BRAKES WOULD NOT STOP THE TURN. THE REPORTED WIND ABOUT 18 MILES AWAY WAS FROM 080 DEGREES AT 10 KTS. THE PLT REPORTED A WIND AT THE SITES AS FROM 060 DEGREES AT 12 KTS.
These match the airframe or engine model. Whether each one applies, and whether it's been complied with, depends on serial numbers, equipment and logbook entries. Applicability must be confirmed by a mechanic against the aircraft's records.
